About

The TR Blog is a regularly updated site concerning news, information, and memories regarding the character (and most popular toy of 1985 & 1986) Teddy Ruxpin.

Teddy Ruxpin was created in the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1980’s by Ken Forsse, who originally invisioned the character of Teddy Ruxpin as the foundation for a puppet show. Through various events in his life, Ken came to meet several people who helped him form his company, AlchemyII Inc, in the 1970s and by 1984 Ken and co. had created what would be refined into the “talking” technology that made Teddy Ruxpin the bestselling toy of 1985 and 1986.  In 1987, Teddy got his own 65 episode cartoon series, “The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin” which ran in first run syndication until 1988. In addition, the World of Teddy Ruxpin toy brand essentially created one of the biggest toy companies of the 1980s – Worlds Of Wonder. Unfortunately, Worlds of Wonder’s rapid success thanks to Teddy was matched only by it’s rapid decline do to the stock market crash of 1987 and overspending on marketing and production.

Teddy Ruxpin returned to shelves briefly in the 1990s but again Teddy fell victim to the mismanagement of his manufacturer, and only lasted about a year before the last remaining units were sold.

Teddy made a triumphant return in 2005 when BackPack Toys brought Teddy back the right way, and three years later, as of 2008, he’s still in production. Also, Mill Creek Entertainment has released The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin on DVD, and for the first time ever the entire series is available on home video.

  1. I was wrong when I said that Teddy would’nt come back
    Terribly wrong
    And I’m sorry
I’m only beginning to see why Teddy has endured over the years

  2. I am looking into having my Teddy Ruxpin repaired but they may tell me it’s cheaper to buy a new one. Does anyone know where I can purchase one of the earlier Ruxpins that still uses tapes?
